Urban mobility options

Berlin is ideal for cycling - good infrastructure, reasonable climate and flat. It gets a little chilly in winter, but some good gloves and warm clothes mean that you can zip through the streets just as fast as any car.

There are many ways to saddle up in this city which will save you shoe leather and the relatively expensive public transport costs (7€/day).

For those who are here only for a short time or are looking for an interim solution before purchasing your very own bike, there is BikeSurf. It is an example of a real sharing bicycle project and they offer bikes on a pay-what-you-can basis or pay-how-you-can.

To get your very own bike, I recommend the bicycle auctions, where confiscated bicycles are sold off every two months. A basic level of German would be helpful as well as going there with someone who knows a little about bikes. All bicycles are sold in cash and on a "no return" basis.
